I have been to Castaway Lakes 3 times and every time the fishing is very impressive. The last time I went was the best yet and the thrill of getting a big fish on the end of your line 4 or 5 times a day on average is indescribable. My average Carp was 30lb with a cat fish weighing in at 110lb. It’s the only place outside the UK I will fish and would not hesitate to recommend to anyone who fishes for big cats and Carp. |

CASTAWAY LAKE 2012
Lee smith and 5 other anglers. April 28th to May 5th 2012
Having sat around for all day on Friday 27th checking all my tackle over and over again 7.30pm finally came and off we set on our journey to Castaway Lakes. The steady drive down soon became full of chat about getting stuck in to some of the lakes bigger residents before we even got into France.
Only 1 of our party had ever been to France before, but was a lot less experienced then and only managed a 5lb tench!
We finally got to castaway lakes at 11am the next morning and were greeted by Janet and Peter’s son, Peter. After a quick coffee, we were taken down to the lake by Janet and Peter and as we drove down the single track lane we caught a glimpse of what could only be described as “HEAVEN” To any carp angler, The 500 year old lake sat there looking very special indeed
Having shown us around the site and caravan (which was a bonus as after all it is drive and survive!) We started to set up and look forward to the fishing. The week’s weather looked a mixed bag but a lot better than the previous week when Janet and peters Dutch friends were on the lake.
After getting to sleep about 9pm after a long day it wasn’t long till we were awoken by a screaming alarm and the first PB of the trip at 29lb on the nose. Another fish came in the early hours and then it was quite till 12 midday and then my alarm roared off and after a great fight, into my net fell a mirror of 39lb and yet another PB of the trip.
Then the fish and PB’S kept getting broken all week. 44lb cat then a 50lb and then a 51lb, on it went. The weather was on and off and so were the fish. But I could have sat behind my rods all week just looking at the water it is that beautiful at this place.
Janet, Peter, Lloyd and Sarah were the perfect hosts and always ready to help. It was Lloyd’s advice that got me the 39lb and after speaking to peter about bait, we changed and after tying some new rigs we landed another handful of fish.
On the last morning though my friend Roy tried something different again after speaking with peter and landed himself the fish of the trip and a fish that will take some beating, a 51.8lb stunning warrior. A perfect end really to a perfect first trip to France.
Over the week we had between us 29 carp up to 51.8lb including 8x30’s, common and grass carp and 9 catfish up to 57lb.
We also lost 6 catfish and about 20 carp!
Now we are all counting down the days, as we have already booked for September 2013.
Once again we would like to thank you for making our dreams come true at castaway lakes with all six anglers making new PB captures.
Thanks again
Kind regards
Lee smith
